RIGs In Iowa
Tri-State Siouxland
Regional Innovation Grant
States: Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska
Counties: Cherokee, Crawford, Ida, Monona,
Plymouth and Woodbury.
Overview: The Tri-State Siouxland Region, largely rural area, is over
6,158 square miles. Between 2000 and 2007, this eleven-county region
lost over 3,150 jobs. This job loss is having a long-term negative
economic impact in their area.
Proposed by a core regional leadership group, the project will seek to
implement a strategic plan designed to offset the effect of job loss
events by recruiting, educating, training, preparing and placing
dislocated workers or other untapped employment groups for employment
opportunities in the growing industries. One way they plan to achieve
this goal is to create a Tri-State Siouxland One-Stop Career Center.
Since this RIG is relatively new, many items are still in the
development stage.
