Overview: Developed in 2005, the Cedar Valley region covers more than
3,000 square miles and is home to more than 211,000 residents – half of
whom live in rural communities, while the other half live in the
Metropolitan areas of Waterloo and Cedar Falls.
The Cedar Valley Regional Partnership (CVRP) is a six-county region that
decided to mirror Iowa’s approach to regionalism by getting local
economic and civic leaders to set aside conventional boundaries and
begin to act collaboratively for a competitive advantage. CVRP brings
together twelve public and private agencies.
So far, CVRP has commissioned a regional Laborshed, developed a web site
and launched a three-year marketing plan. Their marketing plan
emphasizes a positive business image of the region and generation of new
business start-ups and expansions.
While their immediate focus is to help recent dislocated workers, CVRP’s
long-term strategic focus is to unite the region to gain a competitive
advantage, improve employment and advancement opportunities and to
create a talent pool of workers with skills needed by 21st century
industries.
