Graced
with fields of green and natural beauty, the six-county area of Region 8 not
only attracts an ever-growing number of visitors and new residents each
year, but also exciting new industries and development.
Just a few examples of recent economic growth in Region 8 include the
building of the Tall Corn Ethanol plant near Coon Rapids,
expansion of Noble Manufacturing in Sac City and a new ethanol plant and child-care center in
Denison.
Enhancing the region’s appeal are the recreational opportunities
found at numerous parks, museums, libraries and places of historic interest.
Activities for the entire family abound.
Lakes and rivers for swimming and fishing, mile after mile of biking, hiking,
and snowmobiling trails, and aquatic centers are just a few of the
recreational activities available.
The area is served by several municipal airport, a multi-county regional
transit system, state-of-the-art medical care, excellent schools, and the
educational opportunities provided by Des Moines Area Community College,
Buena Vista University, Western Iowa Tech Community College and other institutes of higher learning.

Office Closings Effect Region 8
Progressive levels of reduced
funding for workforce services has forced the department to close 15
offices throughout the state. Effective June 16, 2006, services
will no longer be provided in Guthrie Center. Effective June
26, 2006, services will no longer be provided in Jefferson.
“The decision to close offices was
a difficult one”, indicated Regional Workforce Development Manager
Lori Wirtz, “many of our customers will find it necessary to travel
to surrounding counties for workforce services”.
Iowa Workforce Development is
committed to providing quality, customer-friendly services
throughout the state in the remaining 54 offices. Additionally, the
most common services such as searching and posting jobs; download
required employer postings; file unemployment insurance claims;
access regional information and more are available 24/7 online at
www.iowaworkforce.org.
Region
8 includes the following counties:
- Audubon
- Carroll
