The Youth Program of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) provides opportunities for assistance in both academic and occupational learning; developing leadership skills; and preparing for further education, additional training, and eventual employment.  

Youth must be between the ages of 14-21; meet income, citizenship, and Selective Service requirements; and be experiencing barriers to their educational and employment goals.

  • Alternative or high school completion - G.E.D.
  • Summer employment linked to academic and occupational learning
  • Paid and unpaid work experience, including internships and job shadowing

  • On-the-job training

  • Institutional skill training (post-secondary training)

  • Pre-employment training
