LMI is any information that describes the labor area in terms of its jobs, workers, prevailing wages, industrial structure, major employers, and economic conditions.  The purpose for developing this information is to facilitate the match between workers and jobs.

Basic LMI products include the following:

  • Demographic Statistics (age, sex, race…etc.)

  • Labor Force Statistics (employment, unemployment…etc.)

  •  Employment by Industry

  • Information on Economic Conditions and Trends

  • Current Supply and Demand by Occupation

  • Employment Projections by Industry and Occupation

  • Hours and Earnings Data by Industry

  • Occupational Wage Rates and Fringe Benefits

  • Commuting Patterns

  • Staffing Patterns by Industry

  • Employer Data by Industry and Size Class

LMI has a wide array of uses.  Businesses use the information as a basis for making decisions, for establishing pay scales and for aiding in recruitment efforts.  Government officials and schools use LMI in planning academic and training programs, and in formulating policy. Job seekers analyze LMI to increase their knowledge of the job market.  LMI can be used to gauge the employment potential of different occupations in the labor area.
