Workforce Investment Act

     

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) may be able to help you find the job you want.

WIA provides three levels of services for adults and dislocated workers: core, intensive, and training.  Participants move from one level to the next depending on their employment and training needs. 

To be eligible for Staff-Assisted Core Services, an applicant must be eighteen (18) years of age or older and meet citizenship and Selective Service requirements.  Individuals must meet other eligibility criteria to receive intensive, training, and support services. 

Staff-Assisted Core Services

• Job search and placement assistance including career counseling
• Workshops
• Pre-employment training
• Job clubs

If employment cannot be achieved through staff-assisted core services, then more intensive services can be provided.

Intensive Services

• Comprehensive and specialized assessments of skill levels and service needs
• Development of an Individual Employment Plan
• Work Experience
• Skill upgrading

If employment does not result from intensive services, training services can be provided.

Training Services

• Occupational Skills training
• Secondary education certification (GED)
• Post high school education: possible help with tuition, books, childcare, transportation, etc.
• On-the-job-training
• Remedial and basic skill training

Support Services may include the following

• Transportation costs
• Child care
• Uniforms
• Occupational licenses
