Iowa Workforce Development is much more than just the "unemployment office." The mission of Iowa Workforce Development is to provide quality, customer-driven services that support prosperity, productivity, health and safety for Iowans.

Services for businesses in our ten-county area of Region 15 (Appanoose, Davis, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lucas, Mahaska, Monroe, Van Buren, Wapello, and Wayne counties) include:

• Recruitment - IWD staff seeks to match job seekers against the employment needs of prospective employers and make appropriate referrals. No fees are charged.  Jobs listed with IWD are posted in local offices and on several Internet sites:  IowaJobs and US.jobs.

• Outreach - Region 15 has an account executive to provide area businesses assistance with recruitment needs, coordination of large-scale recruitment such as career and employment fairs, and marketing of IWD products and services. Contact (641) 684-5401 for assistance.

• Testing Services - Do you need an employee who must be able to type 65 words per minute?  Our staff can administer proficiency tests for typing, 10 key, data entry and spelling at no charge to the employer or job seeker.

• Reverse Referrals - This service directs all interested job seekers to apply for openings at our IWD offices, freeing the employer's time for other tasks.

• Tax Credits - The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) and Welfare-to-Work Tax Credit (WWTC) offers businesses federal income tax credit if they hire persons from certain qualified groups, such as low income persons or persons with disabilities.

• Labor Market Information Current labor market information is available on various economic trends and occupations, including data on prevailing wage rates and projected job outlooks.

• Free Space - Want to interview or test prospective applicants away from your place of business? Our Centers offer free meeting rooms to businesses for job interviews (when available) and Resource Center space for businesses to display and distribute job information.

• Work Permits - IWD staff authorize work permits and certificates of age for young people seeking to enter the job market. Click here for more information for employers!

• Required Posters - General requirements and ordering information is available for state and federally required employer posters.  These posters are available at no cost to the public from Iowa Workforce Development.

• Business Closings/Downsizing - Should your business experience a closing or restructuring, our staff and partners are ready to help employees make the transition to other employment.  Laid-off workers are provided access to services, including financial support and training.

• Tax Liability Information - IWD field auditors are housed in the Ottumwa office to work with new and existing employer accounts, including assistance with determining tax liability, current and delinquent quarterly reporting, auditing of employer records, and determining worker status. • Unemployment Insurance Tax Forms and Publications - A number of commonly requested forms are available on-line.
