Job Seeker And Customer Services
You don’t have to be unemployed to use the services provided by Iowa
Workforce Development. Our mission is to provide
quality, customer-driven services that support prosperity, productivity, health and safety for Iowans.
Services for IWD customers in the eight-county area of Region 14 (Adair,
Adams, Clarke, Decatur, Montgomery, Ringgold, Taylor, Union
counties) include:
- Jobs -
IWD staff matches
job seekers against the employment needs of prospective employers, and
makes appropriate referrals. No fees are charged. Jobs listed with IWD
are posted in local offices and on several Internet sites:
Iowa Jobs,
America’s Job Bank,
and Smart Career Move.
Smart Career Move is for jobs paying a minimum of $30,000 per year.
- Career and
Employment Expos -
Career and
employment expos in Region 14 are usually held in the fall and offer
employers and job seekers the opportunity to interact at a single
location.
- Workshops-IWD offers many workshops
designed to help you develop or refine the tools and skills needed
to obtain and retain employment.

- Unemployment
Insurance -
All
Region 14 permanent offices take claims for
Unemployment Insurance.
Unemployment claims can also be filed via the Internet from any Internet
connected personal computer; such as at your own home, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Click on the above link for information on filing and eligibility. In
addition, customers can file for benefits on the computers in the IWD
offices through the Intranet.
- Resource Centers -
IWD has personal computers available to the public at all permanent locations for use
in developing résumés, doing career exploration, and taking typing tests
and tutorials. A number of Internet-based job seeking tools are
available, as well as access to employer Web sites and IWD job postings.
We also have a number of brochures and pamphlets. There is no cost for
any of these services. IWD computers are available to the public at the
Creston, Osceola and Red Oak offices.
- Testing Services -
Applying for a job that requires 40 words per minute typing speed? IWD
staff can administer – at no charge to you – proficiency tests for
typing.
- Services -
Worker profiling
and reemployment services are designed to help persons identified as
being at risk for long-term unemployment insurance eligibility to return
to the workforce as quickly as possible. Identified claimants receive
services in Creston, Osceola, and Red Oak.
- Tax Credits -
The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) and Welfare-to-Work Tax Credit (WtWTC)
offers employers federal income tax credit if they hire persons from
certain qualified groups, such as persons with disabilities or persons
with low incomes. IWD staff
can determine if you qualify for this hiring incentive.
- Labor Market
Information -
Current
Labor Market
Information
is available on various economic trends and occupations, including data
on prevailing wage rates and projected job outlooks.
- Work Permits -
IWD staff authorizes
Work
Permits
and certificates of age for young people seeking to enter the job
market.
- Business
Closings/Downsizing -
Should your place of work experience closing or restructuring, IWD staff
and its partners are ready to help you make the transition to other
employment. Laid-off workers are provided access to services, including
financial support and training.
- Veterans Services -
Our Veteran Service Representative coordinates all services provided to veterans, including
counseling, testing, and identifying training and employment
opportunities.
- PROMISE JOBS -
PROMISE JOBS is Iowa’s
program to help Family Investment Program (FIP) recipients receive job
and training information and assistance to become self-sufficient.
