BEC (Business and Education Center):  The Business and Education Center, or BEC, is a partnership of education, government and private sector organizations who believe that preparing the future workforce is more about the synergy of a good partnership than it is about individual success.

Iowa Advantage provides Iowans in transition a series of workshops addressing their most immediate needs.  These include dealing with job loss, financial management, applying for financial aid, resume development, job search methods and tips on keeping a job in today’s environment.

Job Search Information:  In our Resource Center, information is available on how to complete different types of résumés and cover letters.  Word processing software and Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) staff are also available to assist you with the preparation of a résumé or cover letter.  Services are designed for the novice, and for the more advanced user.  Job seeking skills videos and career information are available to help prepare the job seeker for the process of finding and landing that new job.

Hints for Job Seekers:  If you need help putting together a résumé, aren’t sure how to answer some questions on a job application or are scared to death at the prospect of a job interview, you’ve come to the right place.  Here are some hints to make the job search less frightening and more productive.

Internet Job Search Sites:  Use this resource to search the country for jobs listed on various Internet sites.

Training Testing and Instruction:  Computerized testing is offered in typing, ten-key and data entry.  Computerized training is also available to help you improve your typing and ten-key abilities.  The Resource Center works with Des Moines Public Schools by providing students classroom and hands-on training and assistance with job placement.  Students receive academic credit for their participation in this program.

Veteran Services:  Veteran representatives work closely with the Veterans Administration to assist disabled veterans with job placement.  They are also available to provide all veterans with employment assistance and information about veteran programs and services.

First Call For Help: If you need assistance in areas other than your job search, try the First Call for Help, sponsored by the Central Iowa Chapter of the American Red Cross. This site lists contact information for a wide variety of agencies providing assistance in the Central Iowa Area.
