Proteus
is a culturally-sensitive corporation primarily serving migrant and
seasonal farmworkers and their families by responding to their needs
for employment, training, education, health care and other services
that promote self-sufficiency through personal and social growth.
Proteus
is funded under the Department of Labor, more specifically the
National Farmworker Jobs Program.
This program provides employment, training skills and services
to eligible participants throughout the State of Iowa.
The services that are provided to migrant and seasonal
farmworkers include English-as-a- Second-Language instruction, ABE
(Adult Basic Education), GED (General Equivalency Development), High
School Diploma and vocational training.
Other services include career guidance, job readiness,
job-placement assistance, on- the-job training, work experience and
support services.
Proteus
also provides Migrant Health Services for farmworkers.

Types
of Service:
Employment and Training program funded through the Department of Labor
through the Workforce Investment Act, Section 167, National Farmworker
Jobs Program.
Program
services include assessment, career counseling, job placement
assistance, vocational training, English-as-a-Second Language
instruction, job readiness, High School Diploma and GED.
Participants may receive other supportive services including
assistance with transportation, rent, and childcare.
Eligibility
requirements:
Migrant and seasonal farmworkers (and dependents) who have
performed farmwork in the
United States or Puerto Rico are eligible if the farmwork
the primary type (majority of time or money earned (51% or
more) of employment during any consecutive twelve-month period within
the last two years. Also,
the potential participant must be employment authorized, selective
service certified if applicable, and meet low-income guidelines for
the family size during the same 12-month period used to demonstrate
farmwork.
Fees:
None.
Hours:
Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. Hours are flexible.
Proteus will go anywhere in the state to work with a client.
