The staff at Iowa Workforce Development is ready to
support or augment your internal HR capabilities. We provide
specialized HR project consultation, training, testing and
recruitment.
Our menu of business services include:
Internet Job Listings: The Iowa Works
website, (www.iowaworks.org),
features Iowa's largest Internet job posting presence. It is
specially designed for the benefit of Iowa employers, making listings
of Iowa jobs available to skilled candidates worldwide.
On-line HR References: Beyond merely
posting jobs, the Iowa Works
web site is also a one-stop portal for labor market analysis,
researching wage information, downloading required workplace postings
and forms, and accessing the latest information on Employer Tax
Credits, Worker's Compensation, and OSHA requirements.
Customized recruiting and Job Matching:
Staff are available to pre-screen job applicants through a brief
interview process, matching the best candidates to fill job openings.
Complimentary Office/Conference Space: A
professional office suite and conference room can be reserved for
occasional use at no charge. The facility features, full T-1
Internet connections, and Video capability. Conference
essentials such as overhead and LCD projection equipment, speaker
phone modules, marker boards, and large easel pads can be obtained
through prior arrangement.
HR Resource Center: The Workforce Center
specializes in providing resource information as it relates to
personnel issues in Unemployment law, employer taxation, OSHA, labor
law, Worker's Comp and EEO or ADA compliance. Electronic media
resources, books, government agency information, instructional
pamphlets addressing labor issues, and personalized staff assistance
are available on a walk-in basis.
Employer's Council of Iowa: This
important advisory group has membership open to all businesses in the
Des Moines area. It's purpose is to guide IWD's business focus,
influence policy-makers on workforce issues, address topics of concern
to employers, sponsor training initiatives, and assist IWD in meeting
the critical HR needs of the Des Moines area.
Business Training/Consulting: The
Workforce Center regularly provides training seminars on various HR
issues. Additional training services are available from several
private and public vendors at either no cost or reduced cost.
Popular topics include: OSHA Education, Worker's Compensation
guidelines, Unemployment Insurance facts, labor law, EEO/ADA
compliance, Affirmative Action planning, managerial/supervisory
training, program management, team building, and trends in the Labor
Market, etc. Personal consultation is available from an IWD
Business Services Representative at no cost.
Applications: Employment applications can
be reviewed by staff for EEO and ADA compliance. Technical
assistance in writing job ads to satisfy state and federal legal
requirements are also available at no cost.

Application (PDF): If a job listing
posted with Iowa Workforce Development requires completion of a
"generic" job application, complete this employment
application and send it to your nearest Workforce Development Center.
Be sure to indicate both the employer name and job order number.
A Generic Employment Application form is available to businesses to
assist in screening job applicants.

Testing Services: Competency testing and
pre-employment skills assessments are available as part of hiring,
promotion or training processes. These tests range from
workplace skill and employability analysis to Microsoft Office
proficiency.
Job Fairs: Large-scale Job Fairs are
scheduled annually. These Job Fairs are used by Central Iowa's
top businesses and attract thousands of job seekers with a wide
variety of skills. Along with an annual job fair, we have
smaller weekly job fairs held at the Des Moines Workforce Center.
Interviewer Training: We will assist you
in reviewing your hiring practices, recommend and assist in the
implementation of a structured interview process, and provide training
to your staff.
Job Analysis: This process assists
business to identify competency requirements for jobs, build job tasks
and skill requirements for job descriptions, and determine appropriate
assessment practices.
