SW IA ECI: “Wage & Hour, FLSA , FMLA and Recordkeeping Compliance”

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA –The Southwest Iowa Employers’ Council will be meeting on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Steve Murray, Investigator with US DOL Wage & Hour Division will be speaking on “Wage and Hour Updates, FLSA Compliance, FMLA Regulations and Recordkeeping Requirements.”

Program topics will include:

- Wage & Hour Updates & Changes, Mobile Devices,
- Fair Labor Standards Act Compliance, Remote and Non-traditional Working Time
- Family Medical Leave Act Regulations and Entitlements
- Recordkeeping Requirements; Electronic Record Retention

Featured speaker will be Steve Murray, Investigator with the Omaha, NE Area Office of the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division. He has been a Wage-Hour Investigator for over 25 years and has over 35 total years of Government Service. Mr. Murray has conducted investigations in a wide range of programs enforced by the division. He has a BS degree from the University of Nebraska with graduate work at Creighton.

Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. DOL is responsible for enforcing some of our nations’ most comprehensive federal labor laws on topics including the minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, child labor, family and medical leave, migrant workers, lie detector tests, and the prevailing wages for government service and construction contracts.

Tiffany Hart-Ruff, Job Corps Admissions/Career Transition Coordinator in Council Bluffs will follow-up over lunch with information about how Job Corps can assist businesses with hiring skilled workers.

All human resource personnel & employers are invited to attend. Pre-registration is requested by Friday March 9 to Carol Morgan at (712) 242-2131 or carol.morgan@iwd.iowa.gov. This program has been approved for 2.5 (General) recertification credit hours towards PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). There is a minimal registration fee to attend.

The Southwest Iowa Employers’ Council is a local employer group supported by Iowa Workforce Development and is part of the statewide Employers’ Council of Iowa system. All employers are welcome to attend SW IA ECI events. This employer’s group addresses workforce issues and provides both educational and networking opportunities for employers and human resource professionals.
