Iowa Library Services/State Library Launches First Capitol Complex IowaWORKS Access Point

State Librarian Mary Wegner and Iowa Workforce Development Director Teresa Wahlert

DES MOINES – Iowa Workforce Development is rapidly deploying access points across the state to bring workforce services closer to Iowans. Further enhancing this initiative is the launch of access points on the capitol complex. Iowa Library Services/State Library has installed access points at both the main library in the Ola Babcock Miller Building and at the Law Library in Iowa’s Capitol Building.

“Iowa Library Services and Iowa Workforce Development very much appreciate the great service provided by the access point libraries all around the state. 55,000 people walk through the doors of Iowa public libraries every day. Librarians have always worked hard to meet the needs of their customers, and are again responding to community needs by making the workforce access points available on library computers,” said State Librarian Mary Wegner.

Nearly 200 of the 520 access points across Iowa are located in libraries. More libraries will add access points in the coming year. With Iowa Library Services supporting libraries as they add access points, the partnership with libraries across the state is strengthened for the benefit of all Iowans.

“The access point system provides Iowans with the opportunity to utilize workforce services in a convenient location close to home,” indicated Iowa Workforce Development director Teresa Wahlert. “With over 500 access points, 16 regional centers and 3 satellite offices we have provided access to workforce services in every Iowa county, something that hasn’t been available for decades.”

Continually updated information on access points is available at www.iowaworkforce.org in the announcements section.

Individuals can connect with a workforce professional through at (866) 239-0843 or live chat at an access point. The access is available from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday and 10:00 AM till 2:00 PM on Saturdays. Staff members will continue to be available from 8:00 AM till 4:30 PM Monday through Friday within the regional centers and satellite offices.

Iowa’s redefined workforce will have greater availability to the public with evening and weekend hours, something not available in the current delivery model. Additionally, IWD will continue to enhance technology based services throughout the new system for the benefit of all clients. Iowa Workforce Development and partners, provide comprehensive workforce services within the 16 integrated IowaWORKS offices. 24/7 access to employment services, unemployment filings, job postings and more is available at www.iowaworkforce.org.

Iowa Library Services champions Iowa libraries and promotes excellence and innovation in library services to Iowans. The two main roles of the agency are improving library services in Iowa and delivering specialized information resources to state government and to Iowans. Learn more at www.statelibraryofiowa.org.
