Mason City Workforce Center Awarded Veteran Program Incentive Funds
MASON CITY – Iowa Workforce Development announced the 2010 recipients of the Veterans Services Incentive Funds during the veterans’ conference. The funds are awarded to field offices going above and beyond in providing services to Iowa’s veterans at the local level.
“I’m proud of the services our staff provides throughout the state, and am honored to recognize three of our offices that have demonstrated a high level of creativity and commitment to providing services to area veterans,” said Iowa Workforce Development Director Elisabeth Buck.
The Mason City office received an incentive award for their creative community outreach efforts. The local veteran representative participated in the grass roots planning of the Winnebago Honor Flight that sent over 300 WWII veterans to the Washington D.C. memorial. The office has provided free basic and advanced computer courses to the public with veterans receiving first priority of service. Once a veteran completes the course, the center has partnered with North Iowa Area Community College and the veteran receives a free continuing education computer class.
Congratulations to the Workforce Centers in Mason City, Ottumwa and Sioux City for their outstanding work. Each center will receive $5,163 support additional veteran services programming in their community.
