Sioux City Workforce Center Awarded Veteran Program Incentive Funds
SIOUX CITY – Iowa Workforce Development announced the 2010 recipients of the Veterans Services Incentive Funds during the veterans’ conference. The funds are awarded to field offices going above and beyond in providing services to Iowa’s veterans at the local level.
“I’m proud of the services our staff provides throughout the state, and am honored to recognize three of our offices that have demonstrated a high level of creativity and commitment to providing services to area veterans,” said Iowa Workforce Development Director Elisabeth Buck.
The Sioux City office received an incentive award for going above and beyond with community outreach. Sioux City has a dedicated effort to continually conduct outreach to the area military units. In 2009, the Sioux City veteran representative was honored to be asked to administer the Oath of Enlistment to new Navy recruits in the area. A major community event in the Sioux City area is the “Shoes for Veterans” event and appreciation lunch. In addition to providing shoes and other needing clothing, the event purchases bus tokens for veterans with no transportation options. Region 12’s veteran representative also took on the duties of serving a neighboring 9 county region for seven months.
Congratulations to the Workforce Centers in Mason City, Ottumwa and Sioux City for their outstanding work. Each center will receive $5,163 support additional veteran services programming in their community.
