Independent Contractor or Employee: Get Your Classification Right!
ALGONA, IOWA – Iowa Workforce Development and the Kossuth County Employers’ Council will present “Independent Contractor or Employee: Get Your Classification Right!” on August 26, 2009.
This session will focus on how to determine whether a worker is an “independent contractor” or an “employee.” Getting the classification correct is critical for tax, wage, unemployment, workers’ compensation, and other employment issues. Getting it wrong can cost an employer money. A renewed enforcement emphasis by federal and state regulators requires that employers take a closer look at their classifications. Iowa Workforce Development Attorney Barbara Tapscott will present this hour long session using “real life” examples. The session will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Iowa Lakes Community College in Algona located at 2111 Hwy. 169 N, Algona, Iowa.
Pre-registration is requested by Friday, August 21, 2009 to Paula Seely, 515-295-4602 or firstname.lastname@example.org. There is no fee, but you must pre-register. This program has been approved for 1.0 (General) recertification credit hours towards PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).
The Kossuth County Employers’ Council is a local employer group supported by Iowa Workforce Development Region 3 and 4, and is part of the statewide Employers’ Council of Iowa system. This employer’s group addresses workforce issues, and provides both educational and networking opportunities for employers and human resource professionals.
