Iowa Workforce Development Offers Many Services for Veterans
Davenport, Iowa – From job search assistance to information about employment and training programs, Iowa Workforce Development offers many services for veterans.
“We are pleased to serve the Iowa veterans who gave of themselves to preserve the freedoms we enjoy today,” said Elisabeth Buck, Director of Iowa Workforce Development.
Eligible veterans can receive assistance for a productive job search or gain access to job listings through IWD’s electronic data base. They can also receive assistance with job interviewing and resume writing skills.
Veteran Representatives through Iowa Workforce Development monitor job listings from federal agencies and federal contractors to ensure that veterans get priority service in referral to these jobs, and work closely with clients of V.A. Vocational Rehabilitation.
After returning from Iraq, Veteran Chad Baetke turned to Iowa Workforce Development to find a program that would fit within his service-connected disability and allow him to become gainfully employed. He was interested in becoming a Diesel mechanic and began attend Scott Community College in the Diesel Technology Program.
Baetke was referred to a job at Ryder Truck Rental where he received on the job training and company provided training. He is excelling in his career with Ryder and anticipates a December 2008 graduation. Because of the efforts of the IWD, V.A. Vocational Rehabilitation and Ryder Truck Rental, Baetke has been successful in maintaining his new employment.
Baetke received on-the-job training. Other veterans have the same opportunity and are invited to an Apprenticeship Job Fair on Friday, November 14th. Veterans will receive information regarding the apprenticeship opportunities available for Veterans.
