Hiring Immigrants in Iowa
SPENCER, IOWA - The Lakes Area Employers’ Council (ECI) will be meeting on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at Iowa Lakes Community College, 1900 N. Grand Ave., in Spencer, Iowa. All employers, human resource personnel, accounting, payroll, and other staff members are invited to attend. Featured speaker will be Norma De La O, Coordinator for the New Iowan Center in Sioux City.
New Iowans Centers were created to provide an infrastructure/network for serving foreign nationals, a community one-stop for anyone new to Iowa, and coordination of services to immigrants. The focus of the New Iowan Centers is to help ANYONE new to Iowa, whether from another state or another nation, with needs they may have associated with relocation.
Topic to be covered by Norma De La O: “Hiring Immigrants”
Focus: To assist and update individuals and corporations with immigration issues: forms, TPS, EAD, new laws and regulations, etc.
Questions will be entertained by Norma De La O.

• Work Authorization Documents
• TPS Workers
• Referral to appropriate agencies to fill out USCIS application or to USCIS attorneys in complicated cases.
• Referrals to citizenship classes
• Updates on USCIS laws and regulations (work related issues)
• Alien Labor Relations
• Compliance with the I-9 requirements
• USCIS hiring regulations
• Statewide referrals
Pre-registration is requested by Friday, November 9, 2007 to Bob Becker, (712) 262-1971 ext.126 or . There will be a $4.00 charge for continental breakfast payable to Iowa Lakes Community College that day. If you register but do not attend, you will be charged. A certificate of attendance will be provided to attendees for recertification purposes.
The Lakes Area Employers’ Council is a local employer group supported by Iowa Workforce Development Region 3 and 4, and is part of the statewide Employers’ Council of Iowa system. This employer’s group addresses workforce issues, and provides both educational and networking opportunities for employers and human resource professionals.
