The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is the standard used by Federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy.

The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) was developed in 1991 as a cooperative effort by the United States, Canada and Mexico in order to maintain consistency in industry coding and comparing economies of the three North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners across North America.
