Employment Statistics Bureau
Debra R. Ostrem, Bureau Chief
The Employment Statistics Bureau is
responsible for data collection, analysis and publication of statistical
data for the following programs:
-
The Quarterly
Census of Employment and Wages Program (QCEW), a cooperative program
involving the
Bureau of
Labor Statistics (BLS)
of the
U.S. Department of Labor and
the State Employment Security Agencies (SESAs). The QCEW program
produces a comprehensive tabulation of employment and wage
information for workers covered by State unemployment insurance (UI)
laws and Federal workers covered by the Unemployment Compensation
for Federal Employees (UCFE) program.
-
The Current
Employment Statistics (CES) Survey, a monthly survey of business
establishments which provides estimates of employment, hours, and
earnings data by industry for the nation as a whole, all States, and
most major metropolitan areas. The CES survey is a Federal-State
cooperative endeavor in which State employment security agencies
prepare the data using concepts, definitions, and technical
procedures prescribed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Bureau is also responsible
for the Automated Current Employment Statistics (ACES) program,
which provides technical support to all 50 states and U.S.
territories.
-
Local
Employment Dynamics (LED), a voluntary partnership between state
labor market information agencies and the U.S. Census Bureau,
develops new demographic information about local labor market
conditions at low cost, with no added respondent burden, and with
the same confidentiality protections afforded census and survey
data.
