Asbestos Licenses:

Licenses are not required for employees if they are properly trained and the employer is exempt from the permit requirements.  Otherwise, asbestos workers, contractors and supervisors must obtain licenses for all asbestos projects. Asbestos inspectors and project designers must obtain licenses for asbestos projects in school, public, or commercial buildings. Asbestos management planners must obtain licenses for projects in school buildings.

The application shall be on an original form provided by the Division of Labor. Photocopies are not acceptable. The applicant must sign the form in two places. 

The license applicant shall submit a copy of the training certificate from a trainer approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The training certificate shall state the name of the course successfully completed, the name of the training provider, and the dates of the training.  To find approved training providers, click here.

License Types:

Worker

  • Training: 4-day initial training and most recent refresher training certificate.
  • Physical Abilities: Passage of a respirator fit test and physical examination in accordance with OSHA provisions.
  • Application Fee: $20.00

Supervisor/Contractor

  • Training: 5-day initial training and most recent refresher training certificate.
  • Physical Abilities:  Passage of a respirator fit test and physical examination in accordance with OSHA provisions.
  • Application Fee: $50.00

Inspector

  • Training: 3-day initial training and most recent refresher training certificate.
  • Application Fee: $20.00

Management Planner

  • Training: 3-day initial inspector training, a 2-day management planner training course and most recent refresher training certificates.
  • Application Fee: $20.00

Asbestos Project Designer

  • Training: 3-day initial training and most recent refresher training certificate.
  • Application Fee: $50.00
