Can an employer require employees to purchase uniforms?
Answer :
The employer may require employees to buy uniforms; however, payment for uniforms by payroll deduction is not allowed in most cases. In general, if the uniform is specific to the establishment (i.e. has a logo, company colors, etc.), then it is the cost of the company/employer. If the uniform is generic (i.e. white blouse, black pants), then the cost can be the responsibility of the employee.
