Why am I required to file a new claim? How long will my claim last?
When you file a claim, you begin a benefit period of one year from the effective date of your claim. You may file for weeks you are unemployed within the benefit year until you have exhausted your maximum benefit amount. At the end of your benefit year, your claim will end, even if you havenít exhausted your benefits. If you exhaust your benefits before the year ends, you cannot file a new Iowa claim until the benefit year is up. If you have earned wages in another state you should contact your local Iowa Workforce Development office to see if you could possibly be eligible for a claim in another state.
