Question :
Why would my claim be protested?

Answer :
All employers you have worked for in the last 18 months can be charged for your Unemployment Insurance benefits. These employers and your last employer have been notified of your unemployment insurance claim; therefore, they have the right to protest your claim under current Iowa Employment Security Law. If you indicated in your claim that you quit or were fired from your last job, a fact-finding interview is scheduled automatically. If you were denied benefits when you initially filed your claim, to re-qualify to draw unemployment benefits you would need to work for an employer who is covered by the Iowa Employment Security Law and earn ten times your weekly benefit amount and be otherwise eligible to receive benefits.
