Veterans Services
Under federal law, veterans may receive preferential services for job placement, as well as other programs. Region 5 Workforce Development
Center's Veterans Career Consultant works with veterans who are recently
separated from military service or have barriers to employment.
These barriers include disabilities incurred while in military service,
substance abuse, convictions, work history, and others that may hinder an
applicant in gaining suitable employment.
Services include counseling, testing and identifying training and employment opportunities. The
Veterans Career Consultant also works closely with clients of the VA Vocational
Rehabilitation program with training, monitoring, and placement services upon
completion of rehabilitative services.
In addition, the consultant conducts active outreach programs with employers, community and veterans organizations, unions, and local counseling and social service agencies to make sure veterans know about and receive the services for which they are eligible.
He also works with veterans to place them in federally funded employment and training programs, develop job interviewing and résumé writing skills, help veterans conduct productive job searches and access job listings through electronic databases.
