Seven-county Region 5 is a great
place to call home. From farmland to large industry, from city to small
town, the region is thriving. The area boasts some of the richest
farmland in the state, sits on one of the world’s largest gypsum
deposits and is home to an All America City - Fort Dodge.
Excellent local schools, including
Buena Vista University and Iowa Central Community College, provide a
well-educated workforce. Regional and smaller municipal airports and
transit systems serve the area as well.
Outdoor recreational opportunities
abound with state, county, and city parks, including 6,000-acre Brushy
Creek State Recreational Area and many area golf courses. Hot-air
balloon races, frontier forts, buck skinner rendezvous, farmers markets,
blues and jazz festivals, dragon boat races, skydiving, and motorcycle
and car racing events are also popular activities in the region.
Home to Pulitzer Prize-winning
authors, Region 5 supports community theatres, choruses, bands, and
multicultural events together with renowned art museums and galleries.
