The data in these
profiles are derived from the QCEW Report. Data
compiled from the employers' quarterly tax reports are
submitted to State employment security agencies by employers
subject to State unemployment insurance (UI) laws and from
Federal agencies subject to the UCFE program. These
reports provide information on current employment, wages,
and contributions according to the area, ownership, and
industrial classifications of the reporting employer.
For the first quarter of each year, these reports also
furnish a distribution of employment and wages according to
the employment size of the reporting unit within each
industry.
These reports
have evolved into an accurate indicator of the present state
of the labor market. Reliability in both industry and
geographic cross-sectional detail is due to the fact that
the QCEW data represent the largest universe of monthly
employment and quarterly wage information by industry and
county regularly available in any state. The data are
used in time-series analysis and are used extensively in
industry/area comparisons. |
