The Unemployment Insurance Reporting program produces several UI reports that are used to meet federal workload reporting requirements, determine triggers for special programs, describe the size and scope of the UI program, and
serve as economic indicators. State and federal officials use these data to measure the performance of the Iowa Unemployment Insurance program.
The amount of unemployment benefits paid each month by county is published in the
Iowa Current Employment Situation news release. This is one of the methods of describing the size and scope of the UI program on local economies. Initial claims data from Iowa are reported to the U.S. Department of
Labor, who then combines Iowa data with the other states to publish the weekly report on UI initial claims. This report is often carried by the national news media and the data are considered an important economic indicator. For additional information, call (515)
