Header for NAICS

photo of two men in discussion with globe in backgroundThe North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) has replaced the U.S. Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) System, reshaping the way we view our changing economy.

NAICS was developed jointly by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to provide new comparability in statistics about business activities across North America.

NAICS 2002 has been implemented in almost all of the Bureau of Labor Statistics programs; the new system includes substantial revisions within the Construction and Wholesale Trade sectors and a number of revisions for the Retail and Information sectors.  The next update to NAICS is scheduled for 2007.

For more information on NAICS, visit the Census Bureau's Web site.
