Iowa Athletic
Commissioner

The
Iowa Labor Commissioner also serves as the Athletic Commissioner
for the State of Iowa.
Iowa Code requires the
Commission to license professional boxing and wrestling events
individually.
Iowa participates in the
federal boxer identification process. All professional boxers
throughout the United States must have an I.D. issued by their home
state before boxing professionally. Boxers must apply in person
for a Boxer I.D. at 1000 E. Grand, or contact our staff at a
professional boxing match. A boxer will not be allowed to
participate in a professional match without a federal identification
card.
Each Commission ensures that
no boxer is permitted to box while under suspension from any boxing
commission due to (1) recent knockout/TKO; (2) an injury; (3) failing a
drug test; or (4) falsifying or attempting to falsify his identification
or using false aliases.
Iowa participates in the
Association of Boxing Commissions National Suspension List.
Information on the national suspension list is available for a fee at
Fight Fax.
Iowa licenses professional
boxing, wrestling and shootfighting events and collects a 5% gate tax on
ticket sales but does not require individual licensing or registering of
promoters, officials, managers, or cornermen.
